Tree Tracings

Tree Tracings~by Valerie Ogren for the Greene County Genealogical Society

Meeting notice: The Greene County Genealogical Society will meet Saturday, June 4, at 10 am in the basement meeting room of the Jefferson public library.  Elaine Deluhery will tell about her “First Ancestor in Iowa”.

Genealogy is sharing. We appreciate our friends and members sharing their stories. The things they have learned in their research are also great learning tools for beginners – and to those of us who have been enjoying the hobby for years.  Guests are always welcome.

The reference library will be open at 9 am if you would like to do some research before the meeting. The basement is handicapped accessible.

At this meeting we will be planning our Christmas in July. Bring your ideas of where you would like to meet to eat.  [Sometimes the media deadlines sneak up on me.  Mark your calendars for the first Saturday of each month.]

Free Find: This is a search engine located on our web page. You may type in a name and if it is mentioned on the page, it will point you to the location. Each month I get a report on names people are seeking.  Since last month’s report, names being researched are Gilroy and Shields.

HELP! Speaking of web page, I am in serious need of a volunteer with technical knowledge. You don’t have to be interested in family history, but you do need to be knowledgeable about building a web page. There are changes which need to be made and the person living in Minnesota who was working with me is no longer available. Let me know if you are interested.  vjogren@netins.net

Visit IGS: The Iowa Genealogical Society will host a free day for non-members on Saturday, June 11. If you are not a member, this is a great opportunity to visit IGS and see what they have to offer. They will have extra volunteers to assist you in pursuing those elusive family members.

The June Members Only class will be on Genealogy Do-Overs. Thomas MacEntee started this popular series to clean up and organize your research. Join us on Monday, June 13, at 6:30 pm at the IGS library for a discussion on how to get started. Thomas MacEntee offers additional information on http://www.geneabloggers.com/the-genealogy-do-over-2016-topics/  [Organization is something I certainly need help with!!!]  The IGS Library is located at 628 E. Grand, Des Moines.
