Relay for Life is this Saturday at the Community Center in Jefferson

Relay for Life 2016The 20th Relay for Life of Greene County this Saturday will feature plenty of camaraderie, good food and entertainment, all to raise funds for the American Cancer Society.

The Relay will be held at the Greene County Community Center. Team check-in and walking begins at 9:30 am, as well as check-in for the Color Out Cancer 5K run/walk and registration for survivors and caregivers.

Bidding in the silent auction will also begin at 9:30. Many of the silent auctions items are posted on the Relay’s Facebook page.

A reception for survivors and caregivers, hosted by Greene County Medical Center, will begin at 9:45, with the survivor photo being taken at 10. The Survivors Walk will be at 10:20 along the east side of the building. Color Out Cancer 5K participants will hail survivors during their ceremonial walk before the 5K starts at 10:30.

A community barbecue of beef and pork, sponsored by Fareway, grilled by the Greene County Cattlemen and Pork Producers, and served by Beta Sigma Phi, will be served from 11 am to 1:30 pm. Free will donations for the Relay will be accepted.

Entertainment during the barbecue will be:

  • 11 am – Greene County Community Choir
  • 11:15 – Greene County High School jazz band
  • 11:45 – Rhythm Room Dancers
  • 12:15 pm – Relay sponsor recognition by Relay chair Peg Raney
  • 12:30 – Town and Country Band
  • 1:15 – Prairie Blue Creative Arts dancers

Bidding in the silent auction will close at 1:15.

The luminaria ceremony will take place at 1:45 with the Community Choir returning to sing. High bidders in the silent auction will be announced after the luminaria ceremony, at about 2 pm.
