Greene County places fourth at Carroll Coed

The Greene County Ram girls and boys track and field teams finished in fourth place on Monday, April 10, in Carroll at the Carroll Coed meet.

The boys had two first place events and two that placed second. Senior hurdler Daric Whipple turned in a season best time of 56.86 to win the 400-meter low hurdles, and senior sprinter Max Neese won the 100-meter dash in 11.25 seconds. Junior Nick Schroeder placed second in the 400-meter dash in 54.44 seconds. Neese, Schroeder, Whipple, and junior Chase Stoline teamed up to take second in the 4 x 400 relay in 3:39.18.

Carroll was team champion with 159 points with Audubon second at 102. IKM-Manning had 88 points for third with the Rams in fourth at 72, followed by Perry 60, Maple Valley-Anthon-Oto 32, and 12 points for Woodward-Granger.

    • High jump – Ethan Woodruff 5’ 2”, fifth
    • Long jump – Nick Schroeder 18’ 5.5”, third
    • Shot put – Matthew Gordon 43’ 4”, fourth

Coach Kelly Simpson’s girls won three events and placed second in two others. Placing first were sophomore Megan Durbin in the high jump with a season high leap of 5’ 3”. She also captured first in the 200-meter dash in 27.91. Kenna Marquardt heaved the discus 102’ 4” for another gold medal.

The second place events were the distance medley relay of Melanie Doran-Durbin-Olivia Hansen-Chantel Flack in 4:43.49 and the 4×100 relay of Doran-Hansen-Laurin Lyons-Durbin in 55.66 seconds.

Carroll won the team title with 133.5 points and IKM-Manning was second at 90.5. Roland-Story was third at 82, just ahead of the Rams who collected 80 points. Maple Valley-Anthon-Oto had 75 with 50 for Perry, 46 from Audubon, and 25 points for Woodward-Granger.
