Thirty grant applications for Community Foundation

The deadlines for grant applications to the Greene County Community Foundation and Grow Greene County have passed and the two volunteer boards are at work determining how best to use the funds available.

The Community Foundation board met Saturday morning to read 30 grant applications with requests totaling $260,780. The foundation had $119,000 available.

The funds came from Grow Greene County from gaming proceeds received from Wild Rose Jefferson. The Community Foundation previously received money from the state as a non-gaming county.

The Community Foundation will make its grant awards Monday, March 28.

Grow Greene County, after keeping all promises to contiguous counties and to the cities and school districts in Greene County, and after giving $100,000 to the Greene County Medical Center’s Investing in Tomorrow’s Care capital campaign, has about $200,000 available for the 2016 grant cycle. (Funds have accrued since the casino opened in July and do not represent a full year of operation.)

Grow Greene County received a dozen grant applications requesting a total of approximately $900,000. Grant awards will be announced in April.
