P-C girls fizzle in fourth quarter, lose to CAM 56-51

Paton-Churdan lost to CAM in girls hoops in Churdan Feb. 9, 56-51. The loss evened the season for the Rockets and the Cougars as the Rockets had won in Anita in December 50-41.

“This was a difficult and frustrating loss for us as we were up 10 with seven minutes to go in the game. It was the second straight game we let a sizable lead slip away late in the fourth quarter,” coach Chris Petersen said.

“A lot of credit goes to CAM, as they simply out-hustled us in the last quarter. We have to figure out a way to close out games as we progress into the regional tournaments, starting at Coon Rapids on Thursday,” he added.

The teams were tied at 15 after the first quarter and at 28at halftime. The Rockets outscored the Cougars in the third quarter to take a 47-40 lead. However, the Rockets were able to muster only four points to the Cougars’ 16 in the fourth quarter to take the loss.

Carleigh Paup led in scoring with 22 point. Sydney Koch made 10 points and led in steals with five and in assists with two. Kasey Lane scored four points, Grace Geisler scored five,  and Megan Carey and Jenna Beyers scored four each. Beyers led the Rockets in rebounds with 12.

Paton-Churdan finished the regular season with 11 wins and nine losses. The victory put CAM at 10-11 on the season.
