Greene County magistrate court, week ending Feb. 5

In Greene County magistrate court judgment were entered recently in three cases that were initiated in district court. Charges were amended to simple misdemeanors in each case and judgments were entered in the lower court.

Beth Ann Lenning, 19, of Yankton, SD, was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge after she pleaded guilty to a charge of theft-fifth degree, amended from theft-third degree (aggravated misdemeanor). She must also pay a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge and $773 victim restitution. Court costs were $100.

Trevor Nichols, 30, of Scranton was fined $100 with a $35 surcharge after he pleaded guilty to a charge of assault-simple, amended from a charge in district court of domestic abuse assault causing injury (a serious misdemeanor). Court costs were $137.25

Michael Marlin Matthews, 20, of Grand Junction was sentenced to 30 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of domestic abuse assault-simple, amended from domestic abuse assault causing injury. All but two days of the jail time was suspended. Matthews must pay a $48 sheriff’s fee and he must complete a Domestic Abuse Intervention Services program at his own expense. Court costs were $267.02.

A case was initiated recently against Stevie Hibner of Jefferson on a charge of criminal mischief-fifth degree.

Persons paid fines for scheduled traffic violations during the week ending Feb. 5 as follows: Elias Villanueva Leon of Carroll, failure to display registration plate, $20; Keith David Wendl of Norwalk, dark window/windshield, $50; and Stephen Arthur Molle of Jamaica, operation without registration card or plate, $50.

Also, speed $40 (6-10 over): Brittany Elaine Frantz of Grand Junction, and Lacey Michele Douglas of Bode.

Speed, $20 (1-5 over): Janiece Kay Barringer of Rockwell City, Ashlee Nicole Ellsworthh of Ogden, Nancy Jean Freeman of Cylinder, Susan Ann Kopecky of Lohrville, and Deborah Ann Wills of Jefferson.

Failure to obey stop/yield sign, $100: *Larry Eugene Cole of Perry.

Judgments were entered against individuals for nonpayment of scheduled fines as follows (original fine listed): *Jill Elvington Southers of Ogden, speed, $40; *Andrew Joseph Samuelson of Maxwell, unsafe backing, $100; and Robert James Fredrickson of Grand Junction, failure to provide proof of financial liability, paid $200 of fine, judgment entered for remaining $50 fine, $87.50 surcharge and court costs.

The judgment includes a penalty of one-half the original fine and surcharge.

Court costs were $60 on each citation unless otherwise noted.

*An additional $5 county surcharge was added.
