Grand Junction Community Center nears completion

Open house slated for Jan. 29

The Grand Junction Community Center is almost complete. After a long and arduous fundraising campaign, the bulk of the money has been raised. A completion date of Jan. 28 is still a reality with an open house scheduled Saturday, Jan. 30, from 4 to 7  pm.

“We are almost there,” says committee member Diane Wise. “When we first started this they said it couldn’t be done. And they said it wouldn’t be done. But we are now just days away from our January 28 completion date!”

The $1.2 million facility has been built through donations large and small in Grand Junction and throughout Greene County in addition to financial and administrative support from the city of Grand Junction. The project also received a $220,000 Community Attraction and Tourism grant from Vision Iowa.

The exterior of the facility, located on the south side of Main Street across from Peoples Trust & Savings Bank, is complete. Work is now underway on the interior.

The building was designed by Haila Architects of Ames and is being constructed by Jensen Builders of Des Moines and Fort Dodge, the same company that built the recently completed addition to the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson.

If you haven’t made a donation or have additional funds available, the money will be put to good use in the facility. “Any donation large or small will be appreciated,” added Wise.

Wise encourages everyone to send their tax-deductible donation to: City of Grand Junction/Community Center, P.O. Box 383, Grand Junction IA 50107.
