Inez McHugh, 1916-2015

 Inez McHugh photoA Service of Remembrance was held Monday, Nov. 23, at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson for Inez M. McHugh, 99, of Jefferson.

 The Rev Julie Poulsen, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Jefferson, offered words of comfort. Gary Haupert was soloist, accompanied by Danille Curtis. Interment was at the Scranton Township Cemetery in Scranton.

 Inez Margaret Christian McHugh was born May 15, 1916, on a farm near Scranton, IA.  She was the daughter of Chester L. Christian and Cora Fay Hawley Christian.

 Inez graduated from Scranton High School in 1934 and then attended Fort Dodge Junior College.

On July 6, 1939, Inez eloped with Hugh McHugh to Maryville, MO.  They were married there at a Methodist parsonage.

Inez worked as a bookkeeper and as an office deputy sheriff for the Greene County sheriff’s office from January 1938 to October 1939. Over the years she was a bookkeeper for the ASC office for six years, Brunner Creamery for three years and Joyce Lumber for seven years.

Inez was an avid bird watcher. She and her husband fished a lot and both loved to dance. Inez served three years on the Jefferson Betterment board; three years on the Greenewood board; and four years as treasurer of Garden Club.  She was a member of B.P.O. Does #196, where she served as treasurer for five years, and was a Grand Lodge member. 

Inez belonged to the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson. She moved to the Greenewood complex in 1984. She entered Regency Park Nursing and Rehab Center in 2009. There she died Nov. 19, 2015 at the age of 99 years. 

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband in 1986, and her brother Vernon Christian.  Friends and relatives survive.
