DMACC cross country team runs in NJCAA national championship

Team includes Greene Co grad Emma Saddoris

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) cross country team competed in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I Cross Country Championship Nov. 14 at Fort Dodge.

The Bears came away with a 39th-place finish in the competition, scoring 976 points. Lansing Community College (LCC) took the team championship with 92 points and Leanne Pompeani of Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) won medalist honors with a time of 17:21 over the 5K (3.1-mile course).

Sophomore Shannon Mullnix of Williamsburg led DMACC, finishing 89th with a time of 20:41. Sophomore Michelle Thayer of Des Moines finished 129th in 21:21 and sophomore Molly Claman of Grimes turned in a time of 24:48 and finished in 247th place. Freshman Emma Saddoris of Jefferson and sophomore Juliana Stahle of Norwalk rounded out DMACC’s performance, finishing 253rd and 258th respectively. Saddoris toured the course in 25:04 and Sahle’s time was 25:48.

Freshman Blaire Benshoof of Boone also competed for DMACC. She finished in 260th place with a time of 26:10.

The meet closed out the season for the DMACC cross country team.
