Luella Moranville, 1913-2015

Moranville, LuellaA service of remembrance was held Nov. 9 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Luella Katherine Moranville, 102, of Jefferson.

Words of comfort were offered by the Rev Timothy A. Jones, pastor of the church. Marilynn Hoskinson was organist.

Casket bearers were Mike Gardner, Andy Gardner, Steve Peterson, Robert Miller, Wayne Juhl, Brian Juhl and Mark Juhl. Interment was at Maas Cemetery in Boone County.

The family was assisted by Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home of Jefferson.

Luella Katherine Juhl Moranville, daughter of Peter Juhl and Katherine Mechart Juhl, was born Feb. 9, 1913 in Dana. Luella died Nov. 5, 2015 at the Greene County Medical Center long term care in Jefferson at the age of 102 years.

Luella grew up in the Dana area and graduated from high school in 1931.  After high school, Luella moved in with a family member to help keep house and help with the children. On March 11, 1944, Luella was united in marriage to Kenneth Moranville at Camp Wolters, TX. They were the parents of one son, David Kenneth.

Luella and Kenneth made their home in Dana,  where they owned and operated the town’s gas station. The family moved to Glidden in 1955 and owned and operated a motel for 20 years. Luella and Kenneth retired in 1975.  They later moved to Grand Junction before settling in Jefferson in 1996.  After retiring, Luella and Kenneth spent many years wintering in Arkansas and Arizona.

Luella enjoyed quilting, crocheting, crafts and baking.  The family had their favorites, which included frosted sugar cookies and fudgins.

Luella was baptized on March 23, 1913 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Ogden and was confirmed there on August 7, 1927.  Luella was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden before becoming a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson.

Preceding Luella in death were her parents; her husband in 2010; her son David Kenneth in 1970; her brothers  Ed, Wilbur, Walter, and Clarence; and her sisters Marie and Pauline.

Luella is survived by sister-in-law  Leone Peterson of Jefferson; her niece Marilyn Peterson and her husband Harold of Jefferson; and many other relatives and friends.
