Veterans to host potato bar supper, plan to raffle hams and turkeys

Local veterans are hosting a potato bar Monday, Nov. 9, from 5 to 7 pm at the VFW hall on the east side of the courthouse square in Jefferson. American Legion meeting to follow at 7pm. The potato bar includes a baked potato with all the fixings, dessert, and drinks. Free will donations will be accepted. (American Legion Floyd Brown Post 11 will meet following the supper.)

And in time for the holidays, the veterans are raffling three hams and three turkeys. Veterans will be selling tickets over the next two weekends at the Jefferson Fareway and Hy-Vee stores and at Wild Rose Casino. Tickets will also be available during the meal on Nov. 9, or at the VFW hall Monday through Friday from 10 to 11 am. The winners will be notified on Nov. 23.

Also, for those who need a place to host a large family Thanksgiving meal or a holiday gathering, the VFW hall is available to rent. The newly-renovated hall features a complete kitchen and dining area with plenty of tables and chairs. The cost is $100 per day.

All proceeds directly benefit the local veterans and the community. Persons who want more information may contact Don Ihnken at 515-370-3140 or Kenny Arbuckle at 515-391-1301.
