Medical Center opens new expansion

GCMC moving 1Last Friday and Saturday, Aug. 28-29, were busy days at Greene County Medical Center. With a great amount of coordination and literally dozens of staff members participating, acute nursing and many outpatient services were moved to their new spaces by Saturday afternoon.

Staff at the new visible and accessible emergency room started seeing patients Friday at about 4 pm, and by Friday evening all inpatients were sleeping in their brand new private rooms.

On Saturday, staff of services that are not normally open on the weekends – imaging, surgery, laboratory and pharmacy – were all unpacking and organizing. By Monday morning all services were up and operational.

As staff continues with behind-the-scenes reorganizing and preparation for Phase Two renovations to the spaces vacated, patient care is a top priority in all areas.

Exterior signage is being installed on Sept. 4 to further help visitors find their way to new service locations.

Those who come to the medical center are reminded that services now located in the new addition include acute nursing/inpatient rooms, obstetrics, emergency care, surgery, imaging and lab. Those with appointments with one of these services are asked to come in through the medical center’s main entrance where registration is taking place in two private offices.

For those needing emergency care, enter the ER off of Grimmell Road where parking is located on the east side of the building near the new emergency room entrance. Patients can walk directly into ER, where they will be greeted and registered for care. This is the same for anyone visiting or meeting an ER patient.

Clinic offices, including UnityPoint Clinic, West Central Orthopedics, 21st Century Rehab, Advanced Women’s Care and all specialty clinics, can all be entered from the lower clinic parking lot.

Additionally, a new information desk has been placed in the medical center’s main lobby and is being staffed by medical center auxiliary members to help outpatients and visitors find their way.

The medical center’s south wing will also be removed in preparation for a main walkway on the south side of building, extending from the clinics to the main entrance.
