Sweet corn samples at TJ Gardens during the farmers market

The volunteers of the Thomas Jefferson Gardens of Greene County are looking forward to handing out samples of their Stowell’s Evergreen white sweet corn next Tuesday, Sept. 1, from 4 to 6:30 pm  in the Gardens.

The seed for this variety was purchased from the Thomas Jefferson Center for Historic Plants, an educational program dedicated to preserving historic plant varieties and promoting Thomas Jefferson’s interest in gardening. This variety, developed in 1848,  was regarded as the “king of all white sweet corn varieties”.

“Come see what the Gardens have to offer,” a spokesperson said.
