At-large Jeff council seat will not have incumbent on the ballot

Shannon Black, Jefferson city council member elected at large, announced Tuesday that she is not running for re-election to the council.

Black holds one of two at-large positions on the council. Three positions are held by a person from each of three districts. Any qualified city resident is able to serve in an at-large position.

Nominating petitions are available at city hall, at the county auditor’s office, or at the Iowa Secretary of State’s website here. Twenty-five signatures are required for nomination. Petitions must be returned to the county auditor’s office by Thursday, Sept. 17, at 5 pm.

A workshop for all persons interested in running in the city election is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 10, at 6 pm at the Jefferson municipal building.
