More State Fair wins for Carlson

Marianne Carlson of Jefferson took second place and $150 in the Pajama Party Goodies contest judged Aug. 18 at the Iowa State Fair.

Entries were judged on taste, originality and the accompanying description of a favorite pajama party memory.

Also on Tuesday, Carlson placed third and received $25 in the Bruce Piper’s Favorite Coconut Cream Pie contest.

Each entrant received a loaf of Daily Bread Bakery bread. The entries were judged on flavor, texture of filling, appearance and crust.

Although the State Fair ends Sunday, results will continue to be sent to local media for the next two weeks or so.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 228 divisions, 850 classes and more than 10,600 entries at this year’s Iowa State Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Wells Blue Bunny.
