The Johnsons’ yard is filled with a wide variety of flowers and shrubs. In the front yard a flower bed of vivid pink wave petunias and yellow mum marigolds grow with a large Hawaiian lava rock overlooking them. The rock is a gift from Russ’s mother.

At the corner of the house the stump of an ancient maple tree has been saved and is used as table for decorations and flower pots. Other varieties of flowers in the area include liatris, clematis, lilies, coneflowers and black-eyed Susans, to name a few. De especially loves her yucca and hosta plants as they require the least amount of care.

In the back yard a beautiful river birch tree stands near a well tended vegetable garden. Numerous birds enjoy this spot. The Johnsons use rain barrels to collect water to keep their gardens moist.
