Dick grew up in Indiana and graduated from Churubusco High School with the Class of 1950.  After graduation, he attended a vocational training school where he learned sheet metal layouts, jig and fixture designs, and welding. This began a long career in metal fabrication. Dick worked in the Fort Wayne, IN, area until 1967 when he moved to Iowa and began working for Parker Industries in Jefferson as a production superintendent.
