Greene County district court, week ending June 26

In Greene County district court Joshua Matthew St John, 36, of Jefferson was sentenced to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of forgery. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. He was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge. The fine and surcharge were also suspended but St John must pay a $125 law enforcement initiative (LEI) surcharge and restitution to be determined.

On a charge of possession of methamphetamine, St John was sentenced to two days in jail. He must pay sheriff’s room and board fees for the time he serves. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense, and his driver’s license was revoked for 180 days. He was fined $315 with a $110.25 surcharge, a $125 LEI surcharge, and a $10 DARE surcharge. St John must also pay $100 court costs and restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees to be determined.

Charges against St John of unlawful possession of prescription drugs (nine counts), possession of marijuana, possession of a Schedule ILI controlled substance (two counts) and child endangerment were dismissed. A charge in magistrate court of possession of drug paraphernalia was also dismissed, although a judgment for $60 court costs was entered in that case. (Sentencing: Honorable Adria A. Kester)

Stephen Arthur Molle, 19, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. He was placed on informal probation for one year, and he must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. He must pay a $315 civil penalty, a $125 LEI surcharge, a $10 DARE surcharge, $500 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. A companion case in magistrate court in which Molle was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia was also dismissed, but a judgment for $60 court costs was entered against him. Information is available since the return of an arrest warrant that Lance Michael Ross, 18, of Grand Junction has been charged with criminal mischief-second degree and criminal mischief-third degree. The warrant was issued May 19 and returned June 16.

Cases were initiated in district court during the week ending June 26 as follows: Larry Lee Varnell, 22, of Churdan, driving while license barred; Lindsey Wilson, 31, of West Des Moines, operating while intoxicated-third offense; and Tyrrell Rilee Scheuermann, 18, of Story City, assault on a peace officer causing bodily injury (two counts) and criminal mischief-second degree.
