Affidavit describes bust at large underage drinking party

A picture of the underage party Thursday night in Hardin Township is developing after court documents were filed in Greene County district court. Greene County chief deputy Jack Williams reported last Friday that an estimated 200 persons, many of them underage, were at the party at 732 P Ave.

Tyrrell Rilee Scheuermann, 18, of Story City has been charged in district court with two counts of assault on a peace officer causing injury and criminal mischief-second degree, and in magistrate court with interference with official acts*.

According to an affidavit in the case, dispatch was advised of the party by two mothers. The first reported underage drinking and someone being beaten at the party. She told the dispatcher her daughter had sent her pictures from the party. The second mother said she had picked up her son from the party. She reported drinking, drugs, and possible guns.

Chief deputy Jack Williams was notified of the situation by deputy Shane Allen, who was on duty that night. Williams asked Jefferson police officer Jason Kroeger, sheriff Steve Haupert, deputy Nathanael Chapman, and deputies from Carroll and Boone Counties to respond.

When deputies arrived the party they approached from two entrances. Many of those at the party scattered, but deputies were able to detain in a Morton building about 50 persons who didn’t run. According to the affidavit, someone in the southwest part of the building kicked a hole in the steel and persons started to leave that way. Deputies rotated who was watching the subjects in the Morton building and who was out on the farm property looking for people who ran. As subjects were located, they were taken to the Morton building.

Scheuermann was found lying on the ground with a whiskey bottle. Allen’s affidavit states that Scheuermann did not follow instructions, and ultimately he, Williams, Haupert and Kroeger were all involved in getting him into Allen’s patrol car. Allen and Kroeger sustained minor injuries in the fracas.

Haupert directed Allen not to transport Scheuermann to the LEC in Jefferson until two more Boone County vehicles arrived as back up. While on the way to Jefferson, Scheuermann continued to kick at the doors of the patrol and did an estimated $1,000 in damage to the vehicle. It was finally Capt Mark Clouse of the JPD who talked with Scheuermann at the LEC and was able to calm him.

Another person at the party, Chloe Duckett of Fort Dodge, has been charged in magistrate court with providing false identification to a law officer*. A report from Williams last Friday noted that 50 persons were detained and that 21 were cited for possession of alcohol under age.
