Wild Rose Jefferson (new)Wild Rose Jefferson is on schedule to open Aug. 1, with a grand opening slated for one week later, Aug. 7-8.

Aaron Harn, marketing manager announced at a “sneak preview” for the media and community leaders Monday morning that the grand opening will include fireworks and special entertainment.

General manager Mike Couch provided an update on the project. The full management team is in place, with about 40 percent of the total staff hired. “I’m very proud of the team we’ve assembled so far. I think it’s a good sign of things to come.”

In responding to a question from the press about hiring, Couch said Wild Rose has received a “mixed reaction” in the hiring process. “We had an excellent turnout for the job fair (April 9-10), but the state of Iowa has a low unemployment rate, and that has made it a challenge… but we’re finding the right candidates for the right jobs,” he said.

A dealer school has begun for dealers already hired, but the casino is in need of more dealers. A job fair is slated for Saturday, June 27, from 9 am to noon at the temporary office at the Microsoy plant on E. Central Ave.

“Anyone who wants to come see what dealing is like is welcome to come and take a couple of classes. If you like it, you’re welcome to stay and go through the whole class,” Couch said. Training is being done in Black Jack, craps, and novelty games. “Once a dealer gets through those games, they’ll be table tested and offered a job with the casino.”

Couch said construction is “at the mercy of Mother Nature,” but things are “moving along well.” The interior is coming along well, he said. The adjacent Cobblestone Inn “is coming along as well as it can be, with the weather causing some delays.”

The installation of water and sewer lines was not complete by the June 15 contract deadline, but Couch said it could be done by the end of the week, weather permitting.

WR Dungeons and DragonsThe casino will not be open 24/7, but will be closed Monday through Thursday from 2 to 8 am. It will be open all night Friday Saturday and Sunday.

It will feature 525 slot machines including familiar games like Buffalo Stampede, Wheel of Fortune, and Quick Hits, and new games like Dungeons & Dragons, Herd of Wins, and Sphinx 3D.

There will be 12 live table games and one table each of electronic roulette and electronic Black Jack.

The events center has been named and branded as the Greene Room. Harn said it would be a highlight of the property, second to the casino. “Every seat is a great seat. There are no obstructed views. We have the latest technology and an amazing stage,” Harn said.

The Greene Room will seat between 800 and 1,000 people. Couch said the casino will host four to six shows a year. Other dates the events center will be available for wedding receptions, meetings, etc.
