Duward Tucker, 1938-2015

Tucker, Duward II photoA Service of Remembrance was held May 18 at the First United Methodist Church in Grand Junction for Duward J. Tucker, 77, of Grand Junction.

Words of comfort were offered by Pastor Steve Ransom. Honorary bearers were Duward’s grandchildren Andrew Filipi, Nathan Filipi, Wyatt Kaldenberg, Bailee Tucker, Miranda Tucker, Cason Tucker, Amy Matzen and Emily Kaldenberg; and his friends Jill Brelsford, Donita Souder, Janice Squires, Lila Brelsford, Nikki Brelsford, Denise Gannon, Jackie Gannon, Red and Doris Madsen and Phyllis Gannon.

Casket bearers were Jon Brelsford, Craig Brelsford, Hugh Gannon, Mark Gannon, Todd Flynn and Terry McCollom. Interment was at Junction Township Cemetery at Grand Junction.

The family was assisted by Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home of Jefferson.

Duward John Tucker was born May 8, 1938 in Ames, to Melvin and Thelma Norman Tucker. Duward passed away on May 14, 2015, at Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson.

Duward was reared in Greene County and graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1956. On May 18, 1958, Duward was united in marriage to Capitola Thompson in Rippey. They are the parents of three children: Sonya, Ronda and Bradley.

All of his lifelong years Dewey lived in Greene County where he and Capitola farmed along with raising a family. Dewey especially enjoyed spending time with the family and attending the activities of his grandchildren at the various events and livestock exhibitions they participated in across the United States. Dewey also enjoyed applying his talents to woodworking and helping the family with multiple building projects over the years.

Dewey was active with the Farm Bureau Board for three years, a 4-H Leader for seven years, sold seed corn/beans for 25 years for the major seed companies, and he was also a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Grand Junction.

Dewey was preceded in death by his parents, Noah Thompson (father-in-law), Ruth Thompson (mother-in-law), and Tom Filipi (son-in-law). He is survived by his wife Cappie of Grand Junction; his children Sonya Filipi of Davey, NE, Ronda (Delbert) of Indianola and Bradley (Vicki) of Pleasant Dale, NE; grandchildren Andrew Filipi, Nathan Filipi, Wyatt Kaldenberg, Bailee Tucker, Miranda Tucker and Cason Tucker; step-grandchildren Amy Matzen, Emily Kaldenberg; and great-step-grandchildren Myles and McKinley Matzen.
