Rams finish regular track & field season at HOIAC meet

Girls finish second, boys fifth

The Greene County girls track and field team placed second and the boys placed fifth at the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference meet May 11 at Saydel High School on the north edge of Des Moines.

Gilbert won the girls title 10 points ahead of Greene County. Team scores were Gilbert 136.5, Greene County 126.5, Roland-Story 99, PCM (Monroe) 84, North Polk (Alleman) and CMB (Baxter) tied at 70, Saydel 52, Nevada 46, South Hamilton (Jewell) 36 and Colfax-Mingo 14.

The Rams claimed four conference titles. Senior Hannah Onken won the discus with a personal record throw of 121’ 6”. Sophomore Nadia Fisher won the high jump at 5’ and classmate Olivia Hansen won the 200 meter run in :26.96. The sprint medley relay (seniors Mollie Sorber, Emma Saddoris and Emily Christensen with Hansen) in a time of 1:53.74.

Saddoris placed second in the high jump at 15’ 9-1/2”. The shuttle hurdle relay (Sorber, Fisher, seniors Sarah Sandage and Eme Johnson) finished second at 1:10.09. The 4 X 200 relay (sophomore Hannah Stein, Saddoris, Christensen, Hansen) placed second in 1:51.57.

Third place finishes came from freshman Megan Durbin in the high jump at 4’ 10”, and junior Kenna Marquardty in the discus at 103’ 5”.

Gilbert also won the boys title. Team scores were Gilbert 153, CMB 122, Saydel 105, North Polk 85, Greene County and Nevada tied at 70 points, PCM 40.5, Roland-Story 37.5, South Hamilton 24, and Colfax-Mingo 13.

The Rams had no conference champions. Senior Alex Rasmussen was second in both throwing events, with a throw of 152’ 4” in the discus and 47’ 3” in the shot put. The 4 X 100 meter relay (senior Dylan McConnell, sophomore Dalton Weber, senior Dylan Hamilton and junior Max Neese) placed second with a time of :45.35.

Third place finishes included Neese in the 100 m dash in :11.63; junior Daric Whipple in the 400 m hurdles with a time of :57.36; the 4 X 200 m relay (McConnnell, Weber, Hamilton, Neese) in 1:36.02; and the 4 X 110 m shuttle hurdle relay (McConnell, senior Joe Doran, Whipple, junior Tyler Beger) in 1;01.34.

The Rams’ next competition is a 3A coed state qualifying meet in Atlantic on May 14.
