Ban on on-street parking near Hy-Vee on hold

The idea of no parking zones in the neighborhood surrounding the Hy-Vee was put on hold by the Jefferson city council Tuesday evening. The council did not hold a second reading of the required ordinance, but instead referred the matter back to its streets committee. The first reading of the ordinance was held at the council’s March 24 meeting.

Larry Teeples, a member of the streets committee, said he had talked with store manager Lori Subbert, and that she has ideas about how to ease the situation.

The council had considered posting stop signs at some the nearby intersections; that was referred back to the streets committee last month.
