Local Wild Turkey Federation chapter plans banquet

The Greene County Gobblers Hunting Heritage Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation is hosting its annual banquet and fund raising auction on Saturday, Feb 7, in Clover Hall on the Greene County Fairgrounds in Jefferson. Doors open at 5:30 pm with the dinner at 7 pm.

Chapter President Fred Long is heading up an ambitious committee of volunteers in planning the yearly event. They promise a night of fun(d) raising along with good food and drinks plus the companionship of fellow hunters and conservationists.
Long is proud to point out that Greene County received $20,000 in funding for land acquisition during the past year. Three projects are in the works. A $10,000 grant from NWTF went toward the purchase of a 160-acre farm in the Rippey area. That farm is where the initial effort was made to stock turkeys back in Greene County in the 1980s.
Two $5,000 grants were awarded for land purchases on the west side of Jefferson. All three projects will be open to the public for hunting and other recreational activities.
“Greene County received more than 20 percent of what the state had to spend,” bragged Long. “It will be used to promote habitat in Greene County.”
“Save the Habitat. Save the Hunt,” is a priority of the NWTF. “The Raccoon River valley is one of the targeted areas,” explained Long. “And Greene County is smack in the middle of it.”

Tickets are available from Long: email toast@netins.net or phone 515-370-0905. Tickets will also be sold at the door.  ~The Scranton Journal
