Carleigh Paup in 1000 Point Club

For the second time this basketball season Paton-Churdan principal Annie Smith and the P-C fans honored a high school basketball player at a home game with a balloon bouquet and a signed basketball for joining the 1000 Point Club.

Jake Carey, a senior, was honored earlier in the year and on Jan. 10 in the game against Woodbine, Carleigh Paup, a junior, scored 42 points, putting her several points ahead of the elusive 1000 points.

Paup is the first female player at P-C to score that many points while playing 5-on-5 basketball. She is leading the Rolling Valley conference in points and steals.  She was recognized by the Rolling Hills Conference her freshman and sophomore year by being placed on the first team. She was named to the Iowa Girls Coaches Association third team All State, and the Iowa Sports Spotlight Magazine second team last year.

Paup also played at the demanding third  base ;position for Greene County Ram softball team in 2014, a team that finished third in the state 3A softball tournament.

“Carleigh works hard to do her best off and on the court and the school is pleased she is part of the P-C family,’ said coach Chris Peterson.
