Mayor proclaims Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Jefferson

Domestic violence ribbonJefferson mayor Craig Berry at the city council’s regular meeting Oct. 14 proclaimed October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Jefferson.

Berry noted that one out of four women is a victim of domestic violence during her lifetime, and he noted a need for continuing collaboration between the Jefferson police department, ACCESS, the residents to help in situations of need. “By proclaiming October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, I want the citizens of Jefferson to know that their police department is doing an outstanding job when they become aware of domestic violence. But, without the community’s involvement in being aware of this particularly serious crime, these abuses will continue to occur,” Berry said.

Help for those in domestic violence situations is available by calling ACCESS at 515-292-0500 or the JPD at 515-386-2136.
