Rippey Ladies Aid resumed its meetings after summer vacation on Thursday, Sept 4.  Nancy Burrow was in charge of the meeting and program and she shared her memories of her and Paul’s trip to the Holy Land. Connie Neese gave a summary of the administrative council, which was held the previous night. Midge Vannatta provided the lunch.

Rally Day was held in the Rippey United Methodist Church on Sunday, September 7 during the worship service.  Sunday school superintendent Mary Hick was in charge of the service.  The worship committee, Angie Abbas, Dick Bardole, Yvette Bardole and Brenda Roberts, provided music during the service by playing the bells, accompanied by Midge Vannatta on the piano.  Mary Hick, Brenda Roberts and Jean Borgeson sang two numbers and  the Sunday school teachers and students performed some puppet plays. Mary gave a summary of the past mission works the Sunday school has participated in and will be sharing with the congregation what the kids will chose for this year’s project.

The last ice cream social of the season was held on Sunday, Sept. 7, in the Rippey United Methodist Church.  There was a steady crowd and by the end of the day, the desserts were few, the food was great and the fellowship was priceless.  See all of you next June!

Rippey Lions Club begins fall meetings:  The Rippey Lions Club opened the 2014-2015 year with an evening meeting on Sept 4 at the Rippey United Methodist Church with president Nancy Burrow presiding. Lions Club members and guests enjoyed their grilled meat along with other dishes provided by the members. Burrow presented the program, sharing about her recent trip to Israel, Egypt and Jordan. Plans for the upcoming year include a spaghetti dinner in November, work in the local parks, and providing roast beef sundaes at the annual Bike Ride to Rippey (BRR) in February 2015. Guests and new members are always welcome.

The Greene County Historical Society met on Friday, Sept. 5 at the Rippey United Methodist Church. The meal was prepared by the people of the Rippey Methodist Church. Roger Aegerter, executive director of the society, provided an entertaining quiz about bicycles.

The meeting started with Dick Bardole leading the group in “Bicycles Built for Two” and “God Bless America.”  He was accompanied by Midge Vannatta. This was appreciated by the membership.

Bob Wilson, executive director of the Perry Area Chamber of Commerce, provided an informative and entertaining presentation about  BRR, Bike Ride to Rippey, held the first weekend in February.

A brief business meeting for the society was conducted by vice president Mary Weaver in the absence of president Ces Brunow.  Upcoming events include Poetry Out Loud Sept. 14 and the cemetery walk in Jefferson on Oct. 5.

Friends of Rippey has scheduled a meeting for Sunday evening, Sept. 21, at 6 pm at the Rippey library community room.  FOR is an inclusive group and anyone who is interested in the town and making it a better place to live is welcome to attend the meeting to share their ideas for the future. This group had its first meeting April 22, 2001, with a few interested people. Since then we have added many people and completed several projects for the good of Rippey.   Everyone is welcome.

Dale and Nancy Hanaman traveled last week with Scott Bardole and John Bardole to Storm Lake to attend the volleyball game with Buena Vista University vs. Northwestern College. Their niece Maddie Bardole is a starter for the BV Beavers. Nancy and Dale also enjoyed a visit with her cousin Ruth Dobbins and her husband Jim in Ballwin, MO, over the weekend.

Blake and Linda Hampton, Sierra, Jayden and Sophia of Chandler, AZ, were guests in the home of her brother Alan, Sarah, Kane and Kale Borgeson for a few days visit with her mother Jean Borgeson and other brothers,Michael and Jill Borgeson Jace and Seth, and Robert Borgeson.  Linda and Blake were able to spend a few hours on Saturday night with some of her classmates, while Grandma, Kale, Michael, Jill, Jace and Seth babysat.

On Sunday, Aug.30, there was a family reunion with many friends, as well, who came to visit with the Hampton family and to get acquainted with the youngest members, Jayden and Sophia. Besides the local siblings, other family members attending were Dean and Elayne Bice of Johnston, Chris, Beth and Maggie Bice of Ankeny, Dave, Dena, Tyler and Anna Losen of Urbandale, Mike, Lara, Maya, Aria, and Will Lissick of Inver Grove Heights, MN, and Kay Taylor and Florence Siegenthaler of Jefferson. Other friends who came to share the fun were Chris and  Brenda Roberts and their grandchildren Dominick and Olivia; Phil and Toni Roberts, David, Emily and Ada Weaver, Mary Weaver, Kirsten Carman, Marc and Shannon DeMoss, Shawn and Lori DeMoss, Kyle and Emily DeMoss and Gabe, Al and Ann Frederick and granddaughter Taylor Hinton. Many were still visiting when the storm hit the area and were able to share this experience in the “safety” of the Morton shed.  Several arrived to their own homes to find they didn’t have power and they, too, would be cleaning up tree limbs and debris on Labor Day.

On Tuesday, the family visited the quilters at church and Phyllis Gannon before meeting their cousin Judy Wilson in Paton for lunch. Virgene Morse and Connie Neese were visitors also on Tuesday afternoon.   All in all, it was a good visit and the little ones didn’t seem to mind all the attention.  The family returned home on Wednesday.
