 Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Sunday, Aug. 31: At 8:55 am a deputy was dispatched to the 500 block of South 12 Street in Grand Junction to investigate the report of a no contact violation. The deputy subsequently arrested Richard Tuhn, 35, of Grand Junction for a violation of a no contact order*.

Saturday, Aug. 30: At 6:24 pm a deputy located and arrested Fredrick Lonsdale, 41, of Perry for probation violation (three counts*).

Friday, Aug. 29: At 7:53 am a deputy was dispatched to 295th Street and S Ave in Washington Township for a reported vehicle in the ditch. The driver was not with the vehicle upon the deputy’s arrival. After an investigation, the deputy issued a citation for failure to maintain control to Jonas Steven Eberle, 20, of Jefferson. At 9:29 am a deputy responded to the report of a yearling bull running at large on the roadway at A Ave and County Road E-63 in Willow Township. The owner was eventually located. At 8:45 pm, a deputy and the sheriff, along with two Iowa State troopers all responded to a fight in progress in the 700 block of Madison St in Scranton. After an investigation, Jeannie Rebecca Gustoff, 42, of Scranton was arrested for disorderly conduct, Seth Michael Butler, 28, of Scranton for disorderly conduct and assault (class D felony), and Donald Duane Daniel, 42, also of Scranton was arrested for disorderly conduct and assault (class D felony), two counts*.

Thursday, Aug. 27: At 5:27 pm a deputy spoke with a female resident in the 500 block of W. Hager Street in Grand Junction about the consequences of a threatening letter that was left at her door by a male subject. At 6:24 pm a deputy investigated the report of the possible violation of a no contact order in the 500 block of 11th Street South in Grand Junction.

Wednesday, Aug. 27: At 1:15 am a deputy responded to the 700 block of 230th St in Jackson Township to investigate a single vehicle accident. Benjamin Robert Jacobson, 21, of Jefferson was eastbound when a cow walked onto the roadway. Jacobson struck the cow. Jacobson was not injured, but damage to his 1997 Chevrolet K1500 pickup truck was estimated to exceed value. The owner of the cow has not been determined. At 3:15 pm a deputy investigated harassment concerns regarding several male subjects in the 900 block of High Street in Scranton. At 4:06 pm two deputies assisted personnel from Juvenile Court Services in locating a juvenile in Grand Junction and transporting him to the Greene County Law Enforcement Center. The youngster was later transported to Eldora.

Tuesday, Aug. 26: At 9:02 am due to a domestic situation deputies from the Greene County sheriff’s office removed seven guns from a residence in the 500 block of South 11th Street in Grand Junction. At 12:11 pm a deputy assisted a Calhoun County deputy with a consent search for a 4-wheel ATV at a rural residence in the 900 block of 110th St in Highland Township. At 3:24 pm the animal control officer issued multiple citations to two separate dog owners in Scranton for unlicensed dogs with the city. At 6:38 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 1000 block of E. Railroad Street in Grand Junction for the report of a crow acting strangely. At 6:40 pm a deputy assisted the Clive police department with a hit and run accident investigation reportedly involving a Greene County resident’s vehicle.

Monday, Aug. 25: At 6:03 am the sheriff checked for a deer along the roadway on Highway 30 near the Raccoon River Bridge after a motorist reported a deer running onto the highway, striking her car. She continued onto work so a report was not taken and the deer was never located. At 3:03 pm the chief deputy sheriff and K9 Leo searched a vehicle in the 300 block of South 7th St in Grand Junction and subsequently arrested Rebecca Lynn Chumbley, 30, of Grand Junction for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a marijuana*.

Sunday, Aug. 24: At 4:36 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment and criminal mischief received from two young adults in the 1100 block of Cedar Street in Scranton.

Saturday, Aug. 23: At 8:30 am, a deputy was dispatched to the 2200 block of 340th Street in Washington Township for the report of a stolen pickup truck. Upon the deputy’s arrival it was determined that three young adults were partying along the Raccoon River just into Dallas County and had become stuck in the mud. One of the male subjects had walked to the residence in Greene County to get help and took the truck without the owner’s permission. After an investigation, the deputy arrested Shawn Richard Knudsen, 22, of Coon Rapids for driving while suspended and operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, Colton Lee Pulver, 23, of Coon Rapids, for public intoxication and Laryssa Shelbi Bushman, 19, of Scranton for possession of alcohol 18-20 years of age, first offense*. At 1:05 pm a deputy investigated the report of vehicles racing by a residence at a high rate of speed in the 1000 block of 130th St in Highland Township. At 1:49 pm the animal control officer picked up a Great Dane puppy that was running at large in the 600 block of Hills Ave in Churdan.

Friday, Aug. 22: At 6:52 am a deputy was dispatched to the Lakeside Golf Course to locate a reported injured deer. The deputy and the grounds keeper located and removed the deer from the golf course. At 8:12 pm a deputy was dispatched to a reported vehicle in the ditch on County Road P-46 (W Ave) at 210th Street in Junction Township and the driver was walking northbound and asking passersby for a ride to Harcourt. The deputy did locate the male walking near Highway 30 and subsequently arrested Daniel Karl Krog, 52, of Vincent for public intoxication and failure to maintain control*.

Thursday, Aug. 21: At 11:55 am a deputy was dispatched to a reported harassment concern at Peoples Trust & Savings Bank in Grand Junction and subsequently arrested Allen George Smith, 48, of Grand Junction*. At 12:40 pm a deputy was asked to assist the Department of Human Services with a reported sexual assault case. At 4:47 pm a deputy investigated a dog bite to a 5- year-old male in the 600 block of W. Main Street in Grand Junction. The dog was transported by the animal control officer to the Jefferson Veterinary Clinic to be put down and transported to the diagnostic laboratory at Iowa State University for testing.

Wednesday, Aug. 20: At 10:45 am a deputy responded to assist with a fire call in the 300 block of N. Locust Street in Jefferson. At 2:35 pm the sheriff was dispatched to a reported burglary and theft of a ladder from an unoccupied residence in the 2400 block of Eaton Ave in Willow Township. At 4:47 pm the sheriff was dispatched to the 100 block of 200th St in Kendrick Township for the reported theft of diesel fuel. The theft is under investigation by the sheriff’s office at this time. At 9:45 pm a deputy assisted a Jefferson police officer with a domestic altercation in the 500 block of E. State St in Jefferson.

Monday, Aug. 18: At 5:50 pm deputies, along with fire and rescue squads from Churdan and Jefferson and units from Greene County EMS responded to a two vehicle personal injury accident at 160th St and M Ave in Bristol Township. See story for details.

Sunday, Aug. 17: Routine activity reported.

Saturday, Aug. 16: At 10:15 am a deputy spoke with the owners of a vehicle that came to the Law Enforcement Center to report that they were involved in a hit and run accident on Quaker Avenue near 255th St in Grant Township. The unknown vehicle was not located at that time. At 10:57 am a deputy was dispatched to a reported unresponsive driver parked on the roadway at V Avenue (P-46) near 330th St in Washington Township. After an investigation, the deputy subsequently arrested Danny Lee Cannon 57, of Perry, for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated – second offense*. At 8:46 pm, a deputy investigated the report of 4-wheel ATV’s being ridden on the roadway in the 1800 block of 283rd St in Franklin Township. The deputy spoke with the three adults riding the ATV’s about the complaint and conducted field sobriety on each driver.

Friday, Aug. 15: At 6:43 pm a deputy initiated an investigation into a reported auto theft in Grand Junction.

Thursday, Aug. 14: At 11:15 am a deputy investigated criminal mischief to several windows at a residence in the 400 block of E. Paton Street in Paton. At 11 pm, a deputy spoke with a rural resident in the 1400 block of Kirkwood Avenue about a phone scam that her son had received. She was asked by the deputy to monitor his bank account and check his credit report for improper transactions.

Wednesday, Aug. 13: At 1:38 am a deputy responded to a single vehicle accident on Highway 30 near the Raccoon River bridge between Jefferson and Scranton. Jonathon Reimers Stout, 25, of Des Moines was eastbound on Highway 30. He reported a deer ran across the roadway and he swerved to avoid striking the deer and ended up in the north ditch. Personnel from the Greene County Emergency Medical Services also responded and transported a passenger in the vehicle, Diamondique Renae Nickens, 20, also of Des Moines, to Greene County Medical Center for the complaint of lower back pain. Stout was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to his 2008 Chevrolet Impala was estimated at $7,000. At 8:13 pm deputies and officers from the JPD were not able to locate a vehicle that was reported to have been involved in a rollover accident at the intersection of Quint Avenue and County Road E-53. The vehicle was removed from the scene before the deputy’s arrival. Both agencies are still investigating to identify the reported vehicle.

Monday, Aug. 11:  At 8:56 am a deputy investigated the theft of candy from the laundromat in Grand Junction. At 11:35 am a deputy was dispatched to the 600 block of E Ave in Cedar Township to investigate a reported burglary and theft of power tools from the farmstead. At 12:31 pm a deputy was dispatched to Grand Junction for the report of a young male being struck by a pickup truck while riding his bike. The youth was not injured and was not actually hit by the vehicle, but the wheel of his bike was run over and ruined. The described truck was not located by the deputy at that time. The deputy advises all bicycle riders to make full stops at each stop sign. At 9:26 pm a deputy assisted the Carroll County sheriff’s office with locating a female residing in Greene County for whom there was a Carroll County arrest warrant. The female was transported by the deputy to the Greene-Carroll County line.

Sunday, Aug. 10: At 2:46 am a deputy assisted two Jefferson police officers with securing a crime scene in the 500 block of W. Washington St in Jefferson. At 4:34 pm a deputy was dispatched to Spring Lake for a report of a careless driver in the park. After an investigation a deputy arrested Donald George Sayre, 58, of Jefferson for operating while intoxicated (OWI) and driving a motor vehicle with a barred license*. At 5:56 pm a deputy investigated a minor accident at Spring Lake Park. Vern Robert Stubbe, 76, of Scranton backed into a dumpster at the park with a Coachman travel trailer. No damage was reported to the dumpster and only minor damage to the trailer. At 9:01 pm a  deputy was dispatched motorcycle-deer accident on County Road E-57 near Q Ave east of Cooper in Franklin Township. See related report.

Friday, Aug. 8: At 1:16 pm two deputies assisted with traffic control on County Road P-29 south of County Road E-18 in Dawson Township while gravel that had accidentally spilled from a semi trailer was cleared from the pavement.

Thursday, Aug. 7: Routine activity reported.

Wednesday, Aug. 6: No activity reported.

Tuesday, Aug. 5: At 12:55 am a deputy assisted a Jefferson police officer in trying to locate a male subject that was reported to be carrying a baseball bat in the 200 block of East Adams Street. After an extensive search the described male was never located. At 2:49 am a deputy assisted a Jefferson police officer in finding a male subject who had left the Greene County Medical Center ER and was attempting return to Dana. The deputy transported the male back to his residence in Dana. At 1:27 pm a deputy investigated the theft of three marine batteries and a power converter from a residence in the 100 block of G Ave in Highland Township. At 10:06 pm a deputy assisted a JPD with locating a male subject that was reported to be riding a bicycle and screaming loudly. The male was subsequently located and arrested for public intoxication.

Monday, Aug 4: At 7:58 am a deputy was advised of cattle along the roadway at 250th Street and S Ave in Junction Township. The owner of the cattle was determined and arrived to place the cows back into the pasture. At 6:57 pm, a deputy was dispatched to the 800 block of Main Street East in Grand Junction to help a distraught male subject that had just intentionally struck a power pole with his vehicle. The male subject was not injured due to his striking the pole, but was transported to the Greene County Medical Center by the deputy for a mental evaluation and possible placement into another facility. Damage to the utility pole and the vehicle were not determined at that time. At 8:16 pm, a deputy was advised of cattle along the roadway at Highway 144 and 160th St in Paton Township. The cattle were placed back into the pasture. At 9:30 pm, a Greene County deputy met a Boone County deputy at the county line to pick up and transport a wanted male subject to the Greene County law enforcement center.

Sunday, Aug. 3: No activity reported.

Saturday, Aug. 2: At 4:32 pm a deputy, a Jefferson police officer, the Jefferson fire department and the Greene County Emergency Medical Services all responded to a two vehicle accident on Highway 30 at County Road P-33 (S Ave) west of Grand Junction. Joe Matthew Davis, 21, of Perry, was eastbound driving a semi-tractor tanker trailer. He slowed to attempt a turn onto S Ave. when he was struck from behind by Tyler Scott Alexander, 19, also of Perry, who was driving a GMC pickup truck. Both the semi and pickup are owned by the Accujet Company of Perry. Both drivers were transported to the Greene County Medical Center for observation and later released. Alexander was issued a citation for failure to maintain control and Davis was issued a citation for failure to have a proper tanker transport endorsement. The GMC pickup was estimated to be a total loss and the semi-tractor tanker sustained an estimated $30,000 in damages. At 6:48 pm a deputy investigated a trespassing complaint in the 100 block of North Paton Street in Paton.

Friday, Aug. 1: At 4:23 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 30 (exact location not given). Yuliya Lazarenko, 20, of Knoxville was eastbound when the deer ran onto the roadway and was struck. Lazarenko was not injured, but her 2005 Chevrolet sustained an estimated $3500 in damages.

*In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
