Farmland leasing workshop set for Aug. 7

Pre-registration deadline is Aug. 6

The annual Greene County Extension farmland leasing workshop is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 7, from 1 to 3:30 pm at the Greene County Extension office meeting room in Jefferson.  The workshop will be facilitated by ISU Extension and Outreach farm management specialist Shane Ellis and will include topics like updated land value and cash rental rate surveys, types of farmland lease arrangements, determining fair cash rents, writing and terminating a farm lease, and how to find other information from ISU Extension related to farm leases.

“Both farmland owners and renters are invited to attend the session, which will offer unbiased information to help both sides make successful management decisions,” said Michael Cooley, county Extension coordinator for Greene County Extension.  “Another topic we’ll cover is estimated cost of crop production in the coming year, which I’m sure many Greene County crop producers will be interested to hear about, given the price fluctuations we’ve seen in the past year.”

Participants will receive a comprehensive workbook with supporting material as part of their registration fee.  The pre-registration cost of the workshop is $20 per individual or $30 per couple.  Couples will receive one book to share.  Pre-registration is due by 4:30 pm on Wednesday, Aug. 6.  Walk-in registrations are welcome, but an additional $5 fee will be charged.

To pre-register for the workshop, contact the Greene County Extension office at 515-386-2138  or visit the office during normal business hours of 8 am to 4:30 pm at 104 W. Washington Street in Jefferson.  For more information, email mcooley@iastate.edu.
