GJ Community Center closing Aug. 1

The Grand Junction city council at its June 9 meeting voted to close the existing Community Center effective Aug. 1 due to safety and health issues. Community organizations including the Lions Club, the El Karim Club, the American Legion and the Legion auxiliary who regularly use the Community Center will need to find other meeting places.

Fundraising has been underway for a year for a new Community Center that would be located immediately west of the existing building.

The ongoing garage sale with monies going towards the new Community Center will be discontinued on that date. “Now is the time to come help us empty the building,” a spokesperson said.

For sale are all appliances, cupboards, kitchen island, tables, chairs in the building as well as the garage sale items.  Members of the Grand Junction Women’s Club are there everyThursday, Friday, Saturday from 1 to 5 or by appointment by calling 515-370-5408  or 515-370-5409.
