It’s time to swim!

The Jefferson municipal pool opened for the season last Monday, and with the warm weather of the past week, the water is gently inviting.

The pool is open seven days a week, with swimming for all from1 to 5:30 pm and from 6:30 to 8 pm. Family hour, a time when children must be accompanied by an adult, is from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. The pool is open to adults for lap swimming from  11:30 am to 1 pm.

Pool 3The pool is open when the temperature is at least 65 degrees if it’s sunny or 68 degrees if it’s cloudy. If pool staff sees lightning or hears thunder the pool will close immediately and remain closed for 20 minutes after the last flash or boom. If the pool closes before 5:30 pm because of inclement weather, it will reopen at 6 pm if the weather clears. If the pool closes after 5:30 pm due to weather, it will remain closed the rest of the day. Patrons who want to confirm pool hours can hear a message on the pool’s voicemail at 515-386-9838.

The Jefferson park and recreation department will offer three sessions of free swim lessons and an evening session of paid lessons. Schedules are available at the pool or at the Greene County Community Center. Season pool passes, the provide unlimited use for one fee, are available at the Community Center.

(The pool will be closed for swim meets the evenings of June 3, June 5, June 12, June 19, June 26 and July 1. The pool will also close Friday, July 11, at 5 pm and remain closed all day Saturday, July 12, for the Iowa West Swim Conference meet.)
