Greene County grows a farmers market

Farmers MarketTuesday farmers market on the Courthouse Square have become a summer tradition – and this year is no exception. Beginning June 3, and continuing every Tuesday through Sept. 30, 18 markets in all, regional fruit and veggie growers, bakers, artists, crafters and entrepreneurs will sell their local products on the east side of the courthouse.

Most weeks, the market will also feature a meal provided by a local non-profit as a fundraiser. There are still several open slots, so if your church or organization is interested in the opportunity, please call.

Tuesday’s opening market will feature John 15 Vineyard’s grape items – pie, cookies, cider; Tony Pille’s new CSA operation – Sun Gold Farms – with spinach and greens fresh from his greenhouses. Janice Ritchie has all her specialty decorated items – hand sewn shirts and baby and children’s wear – and new this year, Ritchie will be offering homemade bread and rolls. The Chamber will be on hand with this year’s Bell Tower Festival T-shirts and advance sales for the Festival barbeque. Deal’s Orchard, Lost Grove Produce, Bullhead 1915 Farms, Just a Mere Farm and Moo Meat will join the market as their produce ripens and product becomes available.

Watch for more information: GreeneCountyNewsOnline will post menus on the weekly calendar section. Raccoon Valley News, the Chamber’s email blast and other local media will also have menus.
