The real work of the expansion and renovation project at Greene County Medical Center began Monday when demolition was started of the east portion of the building, which housed the medical center’s public health department and doctors’ offices before that. Medical center physical plant personnel had already done asbestos abatement.

In the new plan, space on the east end of the campus will be used for a more visible emergency department, patient rooms, the obstetrics and surgical areas, and outpatient areas. (Click on the ad/link on GreeneCountyNewsOnline for more information about the project.)

Woodruff Construction of Fort Dodge is the general contractor for the $22.5 million project. Spring Lake Construction of Polk City has the subcontract for demolition, site removal including sorting and salvaging building materials, and earthwork.
